The WePad May Join Our Family Soon

I wasn't very enthusiastic when Apple announced the IPad earlier this year. I also looked at a couple of other tablet PC's at the time, but could not see myself using any of these devices, and my personal thoughts was that these devices are just silly gimmicks that will never really take flight.

About a month later, and my opinions have drastically changed. The main reason for this shift is that I realised that I am already looking for various solutions in my day to day life, that I aimed to replace with other single purpose devices.

Single Device to replace the multitude

When studying Web Development, for example, I find myself having multiple hard-copies of a development books at hand. Working through the chapters in sometimes limited desk-space is definitely not fun. Not to mention that travelling with a mass amount of books is a definite no fun either. For this reason I was thinking of purchasing a Nook or Kindle, so that I can have my whole library as E-Books available at a moments notice.

Another function was the fact that I would find myself sitting in the living room reading, when I quickly want to look up something on the Internet. I would run to my room to do this, or bring the laptop. Sitting in the living room, I now have the clunky laptop on my knees having to place it on the coffee table every time I want to get up. I was thinking that a smart-phone like a Nexus One would solve this issue for me, since it's more compact.

My wife also has a laptop, but it's old and slow, and she rarely uses it anyway. Ideally she just wants to connect to the internet and read her emails, check her calendar etc. It happens quite often that I'm interrupted from work cause she needs to quickly do something small, and it's too much effort to switch on her laptop. Even tho I don't mind, I think it is important to have a extra device, and I was contemplating buying a new laptop for her.

The WePad Solution

Now I have a natural bias against Apple devices, and would not like to own any if I can help it. Sure it's generally good quality hardware, but I still feel anchored down and restricted when I use them, and I really don't like their operating systems (lets spare the debates for another day, thanks ;) ).

For this reason I was looking around for a different tablet pc that could solve our issues in one neat device. I discovered the WePad about a week back and believe that this is the ideal solution for our household. I'm not going to go into the specs of the device, since there are multiple other blogs that already cover this, but suffice to say it's a powerful feature rich android device.

We don't know what it will cost, yet, but depending on the price, my wife and I may soon be owning one. We will of course wait for more in depth reviews, once reviewers get their hands on the device so that we can make an objective decision, but from what I've seen and read thus far I'm already convinced.
